It is reported by Kaiser foundation that children age 8-18 spend 7 hours and 38 minutes a day on technology for entertainment purposes. That is 53 hours a week.  It also reported that children are using multi -modes of media at the same time so that averages to 10 hours and 45 minutes.  So if students are spending this much time on entertainment media will they spend that much time on educational media.  Can we get children to participate in education modes of technology.

So as stated before in Pensky article Turning on The Light  50-70 % are bored in school (43).  Well I always tell my students I am not here to entertain you, I can not make school a level 10 excitement at all times.  You have to take responsibility for yourself and education.  You need to focus on what is important in life and right now school is the most important thing in you life other than family and your religious beliefs. School is your job and take it seriously. So lets see has anyone tried to implement what students value the most into the classroom, technology.

The New York times  in 2011 article In Classroom of Future, Stagnant Scores say the scores are stagnant.  An initiative was taken in 2005 in Arizona the Kyrene School District and they invested 33 million in technological advances to improve the learning of students.  But it was no successful. This has taken place around the country and the same results happen. Students are enthusiastic about learning but it is not translating into success.

I will talk to a few students and interview them and see how much technology do they use.  They will tell me specifically what they use, and for how long do they think they use the technology.  I will specifically want to know how much time is spent on cell phones, video games, TV, music, movies, Ipads, internet and how much time do they multi task. Then I will ask them how much time a day do they spend on educational tasks.  Then How much time do they spend on educational technology.  I will as do you think that more technology in the classroom will keep you focused longer? Will it improve your chances of learning? What are your grades like now? Do you consider yourself a good student?  How many times a day do you feel bored in school?  What is usually happening? Is the teacher lecturing are you testing, quiet reading ?
What modes of technology do you have in your class room presently?  Projectors, Tv,s VCR, DVD players, Smart board, computers, Internet?  What technology would you like to be added.  Are there any classes presently that has you sing technology most of the session, Library time and/or Computer lab.  What mode of technology helps you to learn better in your opinion?  What keeps you more focused? Which one do you want because it seems to be the funnest?  What modes of technology do you think you friends would want and benefit from?   How much time are your friends spending on educational learning with out technology?  How much time are they spending on technology for entertainment purposes?

By asking all theses question it can help me get the perspective of one or two students and the interest in technology on and entertainment level and on an educational level. I can activate what students knowledge is and what can benefit their learning the content being taught.  I can process this by texts, video but only of me saying what the kid as reported. Pictures and my voice.

I would want to further the child conversation and discuss about a specific technology of smart boards.  I can asks each student do they have any knowledge of a smart board.  When and how have they used a smart board.  Did the smartboard keep you from being board?  Did it enhance your learning?  What there any interactive components that you were able to use and or manipulate. Did you play a game on the smart board. If it was math did you write the problems out or did you just write the answer.  What did other students think about the smart board lesson. Would you have gotten the same knowledge from just a teacher standing up with a piece of chalk and a chalk board.  Now I need to find the research and the back up to show the benefits of the smartboards in class and some potential pitfalls of a smart board in class.  I can also try and see the relations to test scores of students with and without smart boards inparticularly. The smart board is an interactive tool that enhances the learning process.  I hope I can explain this through the text, photos, and clips.

Web log 4
My web 2.0 will consist of a calendar, gradebook, email system, and live interactive chat/discussion board.

I will use a calendar from jotlet.     https://www.jotlet.net/
I want students and parents to be able to check important dates and event happening in class. They can see when homework assignments are due, when quizes and test will be and what materials are covered.  It will show current units being covered for all to follow.

I will you a grade book from engrade. http://www.engrade.com/
Engrade is a secure website where all users will need a user id, pass code and id from the teacher to even be able to use the site.  It seems to be well organized an easy for students and parents to navigate.  Students and parents can check students grades and progress on each individual assignment and in the overall class.

Gmail mail.google.com is a email system that allows students to contact their teacher directly through email, students may have question and the teacher can respond to them very quickly and in depth.  Students can feel free to write what ever they want because only the teacher can see what they are asking so students do not need to feel uncomfortable at all.  This is a discussion directly between the student and teacher. Not the whole class.

Scribblarhttp://www.scribblar.com  is collaborative communication web 2.0 page that  has real-time multi-user whiteboard. Students can upload images and share. It has user lists and text chat. It includes live audio communications. Good discussion forum.

Web Blog 3 web page I talked to two teachers and they both gave me some great insight on what they would like their classroom websites to look like. One teacher was an educational teacher and the other was an social/emotional curriculum teacher. So in taking consideration what they both said I have come up with how I would want my website to look. I would definatley have a section that gave some background information about me as a teacher. It would tell my college and high school history and any special achievements. It would include a section that discuses my hobbies and beliefs. It would also have my HQT and talk about me as a highly qualified teacher. It would defianatley include the core/state standards for the subject given. It would list the standards being worked on by weekly breakdowns. The calendar would be a great web 2.0 that could put current units being worked on and assigned homework the students should be doing. The calendar would list any upcoming quizzes, test, projects, and papers, conferences, and holidays. The webpage would include a list of materiel that students may need for the week or unit being covered. So if we were doing a unit on the colonial period students could bring in material like Popsicle sticks or twigs to build miniature houses with. Students would also have a list of skills to practice at home to go along with homework. Students and parents would be able to access grades with a student id number and password. The grade book would be another web 2.0 application only accessed by student id's and passwords. The general lay out of the web page would have to be colorful, inviting and easy to read. All website would have to be very easy to navigate because everyone is not as computer savvy as their kids. I would include some soft music that would go along when you open the webpage. Pictures of current students working would be one of the main pics on the page, with parents written permission of course. Also I would have pictures of the class room structure to let parent/guardians get a feel of the class. The webpage would have to have a short tutorial to explain how to navigate the site and outlining the pages and information on the page, in case parents need to jump to a specific section. The page would include the general school information with contact information of the school, the principal and contact information of the principal. It would include the teachers and the email address for parents to contact the teacher through email or the welcoming to call the school. It would include best hours to reach the teacher during the work day as well. there will be a web 2.0 where students can have a discussion board where they can ask questions to the teacher during assigned hours and students in the class at all times. Students can discuss homework, assignments, and other school related information. Students should want to visit look at what other classmate have posted in the discussion board. Visit the website listen to the music they may be relevant to a topic being covered by the class. There will be a music section that will pertain to units being covered in class, for example music of the colonial period will have a web 2.0 application to go to. The web site should be overall friendly and informative for teachers, parents, students, principal etc.

To start off !!So what is pedagogy? is is using isntuctive strategies approaltey for education. Technology can defiantley enhance the education process and make things easier and proficient, but if you don't understand technology it can really make your job more diffcut and add stress. All of us have strugled with technology not working and all of us have used technology to our advantage to ebnhance the education process. The content can be more effectively communicated with technology but depending on which technological inventions you use the content can be distoreted or viewed diffrently, so careful planning needs to be taken into when usign technology and thinking about all view points. Then after you use your technology you must discuss to assess what is being learned and communicated to the students or viewers. The teacher like in pedagogical content knowledge needs inrepret the message adn make sure the technology being use supports the message you want conveyed. Technology knowledge is always vast and changing so when you jsut feel like you mastered the technolgy is evoleves on you. Every few years you have to learn new technological advances. Cell phones only last a year and thing you needanotehr one. It seems that some technology is only made to alst for a short time then you have to get another one to stay current with the times= technology. I really personally hate that!!! Computers can be used for longer periods nut an outdated computed really puts you behind the times!!!
